The Enigma Of Chess
by Eddy Tian
Chess is an Enigma
waiting to be solved.
Solvers are rewarded
with Cups of Glory
and boosts of strength.
Progress is unstable
like a peak
covered with glaciers
and gaping crevasses.
The pieces flow
through the hurricane
of tactics
and the drizzle
of strategy
maneuvering
on the pieces'
battlefield
striving for posts
capable of offense
and defense
while coordinating
with fellow comrades.
The tournaments
are arduous
with spectators
and chess dictators
looming
like a mountain of trouble
and distraction
over the pieces' battlefield.
The pieces are soldiers
fighting hard
for a simple mark
on paper-
a small movement
for the pencil,
a huge leap
for the solver
toward the shining Cup of Glory
a celebration
for the soldiers
that won the battle
and jumped the hurdle
of enemy resourcefulness
and resistance.
A loss
is a burden
an obstacle
a sheet of lead
between the solver
and the Cup of Glory,
like a minefield
to be avoided
at all costs
while running a marathon.
A coach
is a guide
leading you
through the thorn bushes
of confusion
and misunderstanding
a friend
to make times easier.
Books
are containers
brimming with knowledge
a reference of tools
helping
to forge knowledge
and practice
into a single entity.
The Enigma of chess
is a never ending,
never conceding
length of vines
and weeds
snaking up
to the peaks of success
filled with pitfalls
and traps
and the right tools
and knowledge
will help you
to blaze a path
to improvement...
